What is Holo Holo?

Holo Holo is a Hawaiian word that translates into doing something for pleasure, when someone is going "holoholo" they are adventuring only to enjoy themselves.   For us it means: going on a journey with no specific destination, but having the sole purpose of doing the things we love most.

   Fortunately, we don't have a timeline of carefully planned stops or a culturally filled itinerary, instead we are lucky enough to have all the freedom life has to offer.  We want to hike part of the Appalachian Trail, overland through unknown roads, camp off-the-grid, workout outdoors, make and share with you delicious and nutritious foods out of our Camp Chef, mountain bike in Utah, snowboard in Colorado, surf in the Outer Banks, and start our own business somewhere along the way.  The one thing that is certain is we are leaving Panama city, Florida and heading to Bow, New Hampshire to pickup our Four Wheel Camper mid-September.

  For our whole lives we have been working for others and now its time to finally start putting all that effort into Holo Holo Projects.   In June, we started learning new skills by completely rebuilding our Dodge Ram 2500 and it's Cummins Diesel engine.  Working on a Dodge and all the design flaws we discovered, along with a 5.9L untuned, smoky diesel engine was new for us and brought some frustrations with it.  After countless hours of working on the truck and reading about clunk noises in the service manual in order to diagnose what is wrong with the cruise control, we deemed the best name for it is: Clunky.

  The Florida heat and humidity has not helped at all, and there were days when we did not want to go work in the sauna garage and sweat every ounce of water in our body.  But we did it... often even on Sundays.  Sounds disgusting, I always heard people say that when you do something you love it doesn't seem like work, but that was exactly how we felt.   This also meant we were finally working for ourselves!  Believe it or not, we enjoy working on trucks.

I know you think that there are already a bunch of youtube channel couples doing the exact same thing we are doing, what is the difference?  Everyone has a really different outlook of the world.

After being home-owners for several years, we also discovered that we love fixing stuff around the house.  We learned how to efficiently design our own home, I designed the new kitchen layout and Isaac built it from the bottom-up, everything from manufacturing our kitchen cabinets, tiling, plumbing, drywall repair, replacing doors and windows to rewiring the electrical throughout our 1970's (old) house.  The only thing we outsourced was the installation of our countertops and our lanai (Hawaiian for: patio) landscaping.  Everything else was custom made by us, and we consider our Aikahi Hale to be our first Holo Holo Project.  Our goal is to eventually make money from our "Projects", but for now we are focusing on ourselves and just enjoy overlanding through America.

I'd like to use this medium to share our experiences as veterans, home-owners, dog-parents, fitness and outdoor enthusiasts.   Additionally, share different projects we've worked on and will continue to pursue in the upcoming years.   We would love to share our tech-tips learned from our experiences, and all the things in between.   Can it be possible to build a community in which we can share our projects and encourage each other to accomplish those?

Our current struggle is fixing the cruise control before we head to New Hampshire.   It hasn't worked since June and have made couple 5 hour trips to Gainsville and back and it is miserable without it.  We have done absolutely everything according to the service manuals and forums.  However, we have not been successful.  How hard is it to just hold the throttle?
